History

Quang Le

On the 18th of August 1975, Quang Le and his family came to Waco Texas. His parents brought their four sons and daughter from Viêtnam to start a new life in America.

Quang attended the 10th Grade of Jefferson Moore High school where he quickly learned the English language and graduated in 1978.

In 1979 the Le family opened the successful Ly Le Restaurant (named after his mother Ly Le, a wonderful chef who taught him how to cook). The whole family was involved in the restaurant. His father ran the cash register; his sister was the assistant chef and menu designer.

Quang’s college career started at the McLennan Community College. He transferred to Texas A&M to study petroleum engineering only to return to Waco to work in his family’s restaurant while studying at Baylor University where he graduated in 1985 with a degree in Information Systems, Finances and Accounting.

Quang also worked for First International Bank for a year and then was the Manager for H.E.B Chinese kitchen from 1996 to 2001. Twenty-two years after his family opened their first restaurant in America, Quang Le open his own: what is now known as Clay Pot Restaurant.

In 2007, Quang Le stepped down as Owner and Manager and, while he still oversees general operations, the day to day responsibilities and ownership belong to his brother and sister-in-law. Phong Le and Thanh Le, the new owners, graduated from TSTC, Waco in 1992.
